VINO

Let’s talk Sicilian wine

In my honest opinion Sicily’s wine game is well above par and definitely holds it weight against the rest of the Italian wine regions. Nero D’Avola is by far my single favorite wine and Sicily’s creme della creme. Rich favors and a subtle back end, mixed with earthy tanins make this wine drinkable for any meal or any occasions. Ripe fruit flavors and strong earthy notes and a smooth finish is key for production.

Sicily’s volcanic soil gives birth to an array of other popular grape varietals. Nerello Mascalese, Etna bianco or Rosso, Frappato and the all to famous organic natural orange wine is hit for any wine palette. If you’re on the west end of Sicily be sure to check out Di Giovanna in the area of Sambuca. They have 5 or 6 different wines in production and a brand new tasting room with views over the Sambuca.

If out east stop by the wine resort VillaGrande on the slopes of Mt.Etna. Etna is prime for growing wine. The microclimate at different elevations gives each vineyard a distinct flavor. Be sure to take a wine tour for a day or hike Etna. Trust me, you won’t regret it. Check the blogs for content on my top Vineyards in Sicily and what to expect from each.http://www.di-giovanna.com
