A time to celebrate! Agrigento, Sicily 2025

Agrigento has a lot to look forward to in the near future. The beautiful coastal town in southwest Sicily has just been named the Italian capital of culture for the year 2025, beating out nine other cities for the recognition. Agrigento, the capital city of the Agrigento province, is the beating heart of this corner of Sicily.

Festivities and events for the city will be announced mid-2024. I know it’s still two years away, but hey, it gives you plenty of time to plan your travels to this magnificent part of Italy. Agrigento offers beautiful beaches, the famous Scala Dei Turchi, a lovely old town to explore, great restaurants and good shopping. As always and set in stone( literally ) a visit to the Valley of Temples is a must and probably the very reason Agrigento received this award. The largest and most intact greek ruins outside of Athens never disappoints. Two full days in Agrigento is sufficient and enough to explore. I consider it a little big town. Big enough for all the amenities but small enough to see everything in a short amount of time.

Another positive note on Agrigento is the accessibility to dozens of other towns in the province . The coastal town of Sciacca has some of the best seafood restaurants in all of Italy, a beautiful port and stellar views to enjoy while eating that seafood. Other notable towns are Sambuca, famous for great vineyards, be sure to check out Di Giovanna . The Alpine towns of Ciancianna, Alessandria Della Rocca, Bivona and Santo Stefano offer amazing views, olive groves, stellar hiking, great vineyards to wet the palate and amazing local culture.

I also just want to highlight that Sicily has 300 days of sunshine a year and a really great real estate market. Fixer upper homes can go for as little as a few thousand dollars. Your money stretches a lot further here as well. Labor and cost of material is cheaper compared to northern Italy. Now is a perfect time to get your foot in the real estate door before it is too late. I have a few links on the side menu bar if it garners your attention and a real estate book with the ins and outs of the buying process. Cheers! http://www.di-giovanna.com/entouismo
