Hidden beach in Sicily worthy of attention

Summer is upon us and the heat index is on the rise. It’s no secret that the temperature will hit triple digits in Sicily during summer months. If you happen to find yourself in southwest Sicily on a sunny very hot day then I suggest heading to the beach to cool off for a refreshing afternoon. One of my top beach recommendations near Sciacca is non other than Spiaggia San Giorgio.

One of my favorite new beaches to go to in the area, located down a gravel road off the main highway in a quiet neighborhood. As you drive down the road and under the Italian stone pine trees you have a sense or a feeling that this location was worth the drive. News flash.. It is! You can park on the road up from the beach if there is parking available or you can opt out and park in the Barracuda bar parking lot for 2 euros. The parking is shaded by the Pine trees and literally steps from the beach. For myself, I don’t mind paying for connivence. It just makes my day a little more easier on holiday.

As you walk up towards the beach you get a glimpse of the blues and greens the Mediterranean so loves to show off. Your heart rate drops a few notches at first sight. San Giorgio beach is crescent shaped and the water is clear as tap water and you can see small bait fish as they swim past your ankles. The sand isn’t Caribbean white but brownish and gives the illusion the water isn’t clear till you reach the shore line. The water is very shallow and reaches waste deep about 50 yards from shore. If you have young children it is a perfect place to go. The day that I went there was pretty much zero waves. The sea looked like glass.

In need of a refreshment or lunch? Bar Barracuda has you covered. They offer a daily special lunch menu with fresh pastas and salads at a decent price. Regular menu includes assorted sandwiches (panino’s) burgers and fries. A good lunch spot for sure. As far as refreshments they have a great beer and wine selection. Sodas also included. Most beers and sandwiches cost around 3 to 4 euros each. Bar Barracuda also offers beach umbrellas and sun loungers for 20 euros for two. A common rate in Sicily that most places charge but if you have your own beach gear feel free to bring it and set up shop where ever you like at no cost and as always, come early. Especially on the weekends. Cheers to a wonderful day and a wonderful beach! My new go to beach spot.
