Di Giovanna Winery and Vineyard

Di Giovanna in the Sambuca region of Sicily is my go to supply for Nero D’Avola. Close to home, about 45 minutes away I can speed there in about 30 to stock up. Just kidding. I don’t speed. All jokes aside this multi-generational family owned organic vineyard managed by brothers Gunther and Klaus Di Giovanna produces some of the best wine Sicily has to offer. Their Helios Nero D’Avola D.O.C is worth every sip. A brand new tasting room with views out over the surrounding countryside and vineyards will surely make any wine aficionado appreciate the work and care Di Giovanna has put in.

When I arrived I was greeted by sales and marketing manager Melissa Di Giovanna. Born in Philadelphia, with wine knowledge gained in New York City. She quickly became a top sommelier before relocating to Sicily. She opened the doors to my friend and I, invited us in after hours and set us up with a tasting. With nobody in sight and I mean nobody, I felt like she gave us the keys to place. Amazing hospitality without a doubt. We stayed for about an hour before purchasing 5 or 6 bottles. A few Nero’s, a bottle of their Nerello Mascalese and Helios Grillo. Matter of fact, she sent us on our way with a gift basket of local olive oil Di Giovanna produces, local sea salt and a package of organic pasta noodles that the neighboring farmer makes from organic wheat plus all the bottles she brought out to taste. This is why I keep coming back. 5 stars every visit! Melissa thank you.http://www.di-giovanna.com
