Sicily’s Best Wine Resort on Mt.Etna

On the slopes of Mt.Etna, the most active volcano in Europe and one of the most active volcanoes in the world, sits Barone Di VillaGrande. Hiding out in the town of Milo, Sicily just north of Catania forty minutes by car, this luxury boutique winery and resort is pure greatness. The black volcanic soil doesn’t only give life to some of the finest produce in Italy but also some of the best vino. Warm days and cool evening’s help this microclimate flourish year in and year out. The ownership and staff that dedicate their time here have truly created

something special.

The property boasts a farm to table restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast is A La Carte, while the lunch and dinners are usually coursed with wine pairings. Based on every meal I devoured, it’s evident the chefs are well trained and scholars of their art. My plates returned to the kitchen empty every meal. They use produce grown on the property to compliment fish and seafood sourced just a few miles down the coast. My first night I was able to snag a seat during a private event hosted by the area’s local wine barons. Each course during the dinner was accompanied by a locally made Rosé. Made on property is two different Etna Bianca’s, also an Etna Rosso and Etna Rosso reserve. All four are of excellent quality and delicate on the palate.
